CAIRO, Feb 10 (Aswat Masriya) - Three separate explosions occurred outside police stations in Egypt's coastal city of Alexandria on Tuesday, leaving 10 people injured.

Alexandria Security Director Amin Ezz el-Din told Aswat Masriya that one Improvised Explosive Device (IED) went off in the vicinity of the First Montazah Police Station, leaving seven injured. Another IED exploded in a car outside the Second Montazah Police Station, injuring two, while a third outside the Raml Police Station left one injured.

Those injured were transferred to hospital to receive treatment, said Ibrahim al-Roubi, an Alexandria health official. He added that they are all in stable condition, except for one who is suffering from severe foot laceration.

Two more explosions occurred in the neighbourhoods of Semouha and Sidi Beshr; both did not cause any injuries, Ezz el-Din said.

Prosecutor General Hisham Barakat, Egypt's top prosecutor, ordered an investigation into the five explosions.

Violence erupted nationwide starting January 24, ahead of the fourth anniversary of the January 2011 uprising on January 25. Multiple explosions have been reported since.

Alexandria alone has witnessed multiple blasts. A man was killed and two others were injured in an explosion in the coastal city last Tuesday, while another man was killed while trying to plant an explosive device outside the Raml Police Station two weeks ago.

Militants have escalated attacks targeting Egyptian security forces since July 2013. The Sinai Peninsula has been most heavily affected by attacks but other parts of the country have also been hit.
