CAIRO, Nov 17 (Aswat Masriya) – A Cairo misdemeanour court sentenced on Monday a physician to five years' labour and two nurses to three years' labour for manslaughter and negligence.
The three medical practitioners were convicted in the death of a 26-year-old female patient in June.
Investigations revealed that Heba al-Ayouty had gone to a medical centre for x-rays in May when she was injected with a "strange substance" that eventually led to her death.
Before she died, Ayouty had been transferred to the emergency room for a gangrene that later damaged her abdomen, investigations revealed, adding that she died in Germany where her mother had taken her for treatment.
Ayouty was reported dead a month after she was injected at the medical center.
Health Minister Adel Adawy had sent the case to the prosecutor-general's office and ordered for the center to be shut down until investigations are finished.
