CAIRO, Apr 5 (Aswat Masriya) - A blast on a bridge running over Cairo's Zamalek island on Sunday left one policeman dead and three people injured, a security official said.

The official was cited by state agency MENA as saying that the wounded include a civilian who suffers from severe injuries and a broken neck.

Cairo's security director earlier told Aswat Masriya that the blast left one person dead, without saying if the victim was a civilian or a policeman.

The explosion took place on the May 15 Bridge. Security forces have cordoned off the area and are combing it to make sure that there are no more explosive devices.

Egypt's state television reported that the incident has affected traffic.

Bombings and shootings in Egypt have surged since July 2013.

Attacks in general target security forces but civilians have been affected.

Last month, a blast outside the main gate of the High Court in central Cairo left two people dead.
