CAIRO, Aug 27 (Aswat Masriya) - Egypt's foreign ministry condemned on Saturday a suicide bombing targeting a police checkpoint in the Turkish city of Cizre, which left at least 11 policemen dead and injured 78.

The bombing is believed to have been carried out by the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK).

The bombing, which also hit a police headquarters, was the latest in a series of attacks in the south-eastern town of Cizre, since a ceasefire between the PKK and the Turkish government collapsed more than a year ago, Reuters reported.

Last July, a faction of the Turkish armed forces declared they had taken control of the country, before forces loyal to the government managed to fight back and quash an attempted military coup as crowds answered President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's call to take to the streets in support of the government.

In its statement, the Egyptian foreign ministry extended its condolences to the people of Turkey.

Egyptian ties with the Turkish government have deteriorated since 2013, when Abdel Fattah al-Sisi led a military ouster of then-president Mohamed Mursi, following mass protests against Mursi's rule.
