CAIRO, Dec 1 (Aswat Masriya) - A number of students torched a police vehicle near Egypt's Cairo University on Sunday during a protest against the killing of one of their colleagues during an earlier protest, security sources told the state-owned news agency.

Protesters gathered at Cairo University to denounce the killing of Mohamed Reda, a freshman student at the faculty of engineering who died on campus during clashes with the security forces on Thursday.

"Some students attacked a police vehicle that was parked near the university and set it to fire," the security sources said.

Reda's professors and colleagues have gone on strike that will last until justice is served and security intrusion in university is halted, according to a statement published by Egypt's Association for Freedom of Expression.

The protesters chanted against the interior ministry and expressed their opposition to the security forces' violent dispersal of students' protests. They carried banners saying, "Strike in solidarity with detained students."

Students from other faculties on campus joined the protest.

The university administration has announced the mourning of Reda for three days without suspending classes. It also announced that investigations are taking place and will be finished by Thursday at most.
