CAIRO, Dec 19 (Aswat Masriya) The National Alliance to Support Legitimacy and Oppose the Coup, which was formed to support ousted President Mohamed Mursi, has described participation in an upcoming constitutional referendum as a “betrayal of the martyrs”.

In a statement on Thursday, it described the 2012 constitution, which was written by an Islamist-led assembly and Mursi’s allies, as the country’s only legitimate constitution.

The Muslim Brotherhood’s Freedom Justice Party has also called on Egyptians to boycott the referendum, which is set for mid-January of next year.

The alliance has been organizing demonstrations to denounce the police and army since Mursi’s ouster in July.

A 50-member assembly finished drafting a new constitution two weeks.
