CAIRO, Dec 1 (Aswat Masriya) - The head of the ultraconservative Nour Party, Younes Makhyoun, said on Sunday that the amended constitution is generally satisfying.

In a statement on Saturday, Makhyoun added that the party will announce its final stance on the amended charter after the interim president’s ratification.

The 50-member constituent assembly was formed in September to amend a constitution written by an Islamist-led assembly at the end of last year under the Mohamed Mursi administration.

Chaired by Amr Moussa, the constituent assembly voted on 138 out of 247 articles on Saturday in a session that lasted about four hours and is expected to finish by Sunday to present the amendments to the interim president by Monday.

Egypt’s army ousted Mursi in July in response to mass demonstrations across the country, suspended the constitution and announced early presidential elections.

Interim President Adli Mansour is expected to call for a referendum within 30 days of receiving the amended constitution in accordance with the roadmap announced on July 3.

The constitutional referendum, which according to interim Prime Minister Hazem el-Beblawi will take place in the second half of January, will be followed by parliamentary then presidential elections.
