CAIRO, Jun 30 (Aswat Masriya) - A car exploded in Cairo's October 6 city on Tuesday, killing three people, the Health Ministry said in a statement reported by the state news agency MENA.

Security sources had said that three "terrorists" were killed while trying to bomb a car in the vicinity of the October 6 Police Station.

The explosion comes one day after Egypt's top prosecutor died due to wounds sustained during an attack on his motorcade.

Zakaria Abdel Aziz Othman, the assistant prosecutor general said that a car suddenly exploded near the prosecutor general's motorcade. The blast left nine others injured.

Prosecutor General Hisham Barakat's death makes him the first top official to be assassinated in Egypt since the ouster of Islamist president Mohamed Mursi in July 2013, following mass protests against his rule.

Bombings and shootings have surged since July 2013, mostly targeting security forces.
