NORTH SINAI, Oct 19 (Aswat Masriya) - Six armed forces personnel were killed on Sunday when an explosion occurred near a security convoy in Sinai's al-Arish, leaving five more injured, according to the armed forces.

Unidentified assailants planted an explosive device on a road in south Arish and remotely detonated it at the passage of the security vehicle, security sources said.

Aswat Masriya has earlier reported the death of seven conscripts in the explosion of an armoured police vehicle, citing security sources in Sinai.

Egypt's security forces have intensified their security measures in North Sinai in reaction to repeated militant attacks that target army and police officials, which rose significantly since the military ouster of former President Mohamed Mursi last year.

A fact-sheet prepared by Egypt's ministry of foreign affairs put the death toll for terrorism acts which took place since January 2011 and until April 2014 at 971, including 664 security personnel.
