CAIRO, Feb 16 (Aswat Masriya) A Port Said criminal court sentenced two men to 15 years in prison on Sunday for the murder and sexual assault of a five-year-old girl.
According to Article 122 of Egypt's Child Law, the defendants, Mahmoud Mohamed Mahmoud, 17, and Alaa Gomaa Ezzat, 16, could not have been sentenced to death or life because they were both minors when they committed the crime.
Mahmoud was given an extra five years for resisting the authorities, vandalizing public property and carrying arms.
Zeina Arafa Rihan, 5, was killed last November when the defendants threw her from the roof of a building after sexually assaulting her.
"I wanted them to be sentenced to death, so that my heart is comforted, but spending 15 and 20 years in prison will be great punishment for them to taste suffering and guilt... if they have a conscience. May God avenge them for depriving me from my sunshine," Zeina's mother told Aswat Masriya.
