CAIRO, Dec 23 (Aswat Masriya) - Egypt's armed forces have killed 184 terrorists and Takfiris in North Sinai since the beginning of a security crackdown on the area last August, said Colonel Staff Ahmed Mohamed Ali, the military spokesman.

The army also arrested 834 Jihadists and Takfiris since the crackdown was launched, the spokesman said.

The armed forces detected and seized large quantities of heavy weaponry only used in army battles.

They also demolished 786 tunnels on the borders with Gaza, the state-run agency MENA reported Colonel Staff Ali as saying.

The tunnels joining Egypt and Gaza were used in conveying Takfiri and Jihadist thought to Sinai, the spokesman added.

The Foreign Ministry has previously accused the Palestinian Hamas movement of aiding hardline Islamists in Sinai in targeting army and police forces since former President Mohamed Mursi was removed from power last July.
