Egypt’s defense minister Abdel Fattah al-Sisi said on Sunday during his meeting with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas that Egypt will continue to support the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people and their call for an independent state.

Abbas arrived to Cairo on Saturday for a three-day visit where he is expected to meet with high ranking Egyptian officials, including Prime Minister Hazem al-Beblawy, Defense Minister Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, Foreign Minister Nabil Fahmy and Azhar's top Imam Ahmed al-Tayeb.

Egypt’s interim president Adli Mansour met with Abbas on Sunday to discuss the latest developments in Palestine and efforts to enhance relations between the two countries.

Cairo has always sponsored talks and efforts for Palestinian reconciliation.

This is the second visit that Abbas has made to Cairo since the army ousted President Mohamed Mursi in July in response to mass demonstrations.
