Egypt’s presidency has condemned sectarian violence that took place in Abu Musallem Village on Monday.

Four Egyptian Shi’ites were killed by a mob of Salafis (ultraconservative Sunnis) late on Monday.

The president’s office said on its official Facebook page that “the state will not tolerate at all any attempts to sabotage the security and stability of the country or harm the unity of the Egyptian people.”

It stressed its complete rejection for such “criminal acts” which it said contradict the tolerance and respect that Egyptian people are known for.

It added that national institutions have been ordered to investigate the case and bring the perpetrators to justice.
