NORTH SINAI, Aug 31 (Aswat Masriya) - At least three people died on Sunday during a security campaign in Arish, Ali Azazi, deputy security director of North Sinai, told Aswat Masriya.

Azazi said that a 17-year-old girl was killed inside a house targeted by security forces along with two other terrorists.

The security forces waged a campaign in al-Masaid district of Arish after they received information that "terrorists" were hiding in the area, leading to the murder of Fayez Abdallah Hamdan, who was the primary suspect in the kidnapping of seven soldiers during the rule of ousted President Mohamed Mursi.

Gunmen kidnapped seven army and police recruits in May 2013 to demand an exchange of their inmate relatives who have been arrested in relation to the case of Taba explosions.

"A fire exchange occurred between the security forces and gunmen, leaving three central security officers wounded," a security source said.

The wounded officers were moved to the military hospital in Arish.

Egypt's security forces have intensified their security measures in North Sinai in reaction to repeated militant attacks that target army and police officials, which rose significantly since the military ouster of Mursi last year.
