CAIRO, Jan 25 (Aswat Masriya) – A pro-Mohamed Mursi protester was killed when security forces dispersed a rally commemorating the January 2011 uprising in Alexandria on Sunday.

The ministry of interior said in a statement that the deceased protester was armed, alongside another protester, and that both were "randomly shooting to terrorise residents". It added that they injured a resident as a result.

The ministry said it arrested three protesters, including the other allegedly armed protester.

The dissolved Freedom and Justice Party, the Muslim Brotherhood's political wing, claimed in a statement that the decease was shot with "army bullets".

Ayman Abdel Moneim, Health Ministry deputy in Alexandria, said the deceased died inside the ambulance. He is yet to be transferred to the morgue to identify the cause of death.
A security source told Reuters the deceased died due to a birdshot wound.

Sunday marks the fourth anniversary of the uprising which toppled the regime of former President Hosni Mubarak.

Mursi’s banned Muslim Brotherhood has been rallying for protests nationwide to commemorate the anniversary. A 17-year old girl was killed in during Brotherhood protest in Alexandria on Friday.

Alexandra has witnessed violence since the start of the day. Unidentified assailants set the city's tram ablaze, leaving no injuries behind.

In anticipation of protests commemorating the anniversary, security measures across Cairo have been heightened, specifically around major squares. Army forces maintained their shutdown of Tahrir Square for the second day in a row on Sunday.

Tahrir square, located in Downtown Cairo, is considered one of the symbols of the uprising.

Military vehicles have been situated at the entrances of the square and on roads leading to it, MENA reported.

A female socialist activist, Shaimaa al-Sabbagh, was killed on Saturday when security forces dispersed a protest in downtown Cairo. The protest was organised by the Socialist Polular Alliance Party, also in commemoration of the uprising’s anniversary.
