The United Nations' Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon expressed his deep worry about the escalation of violence and bloodshed in Egypt, the Middle East News Agency reported on Tuesday.

Senior U.N. officials are currently in talks with Egyptian officials to put an end to the bloodshed and emphasize the need for a swift transition of power to a civil rule, the chief's spokesman, Martin Nesirky, said.

Egypt's Ministry of Health announced earlier that the clashes toll on Monday and early Tuesday was nine dead and 86 injured.
