Hundreds of women on Wednesday organised an anti-harassment protest and marched while carrying bladed weapons to defend themselves.

Several activists, rights groups, and anti-harassment campaigns had called for a march to declare their rejection of the policies of intimidation and violence in protests and peaceful demonstrations.

The protesters held pictures of prominent female figures such as Huda Shaarawi, Omm Kolthoum, and Shahenda Maklad.

A number of political parties, activists, and public figures took part in the march.

"We will not be afraid and we will not stop going out," activist Yasmine Barmawi who was group sexually harassed at Tahrir Square said, adding that the regime uses this form of violence as a way of terrorising women.

"We will not let the system use our bodies as a tool against us," Sherine Abul Naga, English literature professor at Cairo University, said.
