Dozens of supporters of deposed President Mohamed Mursi were injured early on Saturday after unknown assailants attacked their rally in the city of Fayoum south of Cairo.

An Aswat Masriya eyewitness said that the police fired teargas bombs to disperse the protesters and impede the attack.

The attackers opened fire heavily at Mursi supporters, according to eyewitnesses.

Meanwhile, the National Alliance to Support Legitimacy, an Islamist coalition created in support of Mursi, released a statement holding the interior ministry and the army's Top Commander Abdel Fattah al-Sisi responsible for the assaults on the protests.
