CAIRO, June 22 (Aswat Masriya) Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi confirmed during his talks with U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry on Sunday that Egypt will begin procedures to prepare for a parliamentary election before July 18, the presidential spokesman said.

Sisi, who was sworn into office earlier this month after a landslide victory, said that the parliamentary election will count as a fundamental step towards creating a legislative basis to mold constitutional articles into laws, the spokesman added.

According to Egypt's 2014 constitution, a presidential election is to be conducted between 30 and 90 days from ratifying the charter followed by parliamentary elections within 6 months of the ratification.

Egyptians voted on a new constitution in January.
