CAIRO, April 30 (Aswat Masriya) Putting an end to terrorism, retribution for martyrs and the pursuit of economic self-sufficiency are the top priorities of Hamdeen Sabahi's electoral program for Egypt's upcoming presidential elections, Sabahi said in the opening speech for his campaign on Wednesday.

"The goals of the program we present today were put together by Egyptians in the squares of the revolution," Sabahi said in a televised press conference.

Sabahi, a leftist politician who came in third in the 2012 elections, added that everything in his program is bound by the will of the people.

"Some might see this program as ambitious but it is a rightful ambition to the people who gave sacrifices," the presidential candidate said.

Former army chief Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and Sabahi are the two official candidates contesting Egypt's presidential elections next month.

Egypt will vote for a new president on 26 and 27 May.

Sabahi called on Egyptians to support him in order to "achieve the dream of a decent life, attain social justice and human dignity."

Sabahi's campaign media advisor said that his program is based on providing the rights for food, health and treatment to all citizens without discrimination, among other rights.

Regarding the security situation, "The current strategy to counter terrorism reflects a clear failure. We have to confront the roots of terrorism," Campaign member Amr Salah said.

He added, "Sabahi's program will work on addressing poverty and unemployment, which are the most significant means to fight terrorism."

A wave of political violence broke out following the army's ouster of Islamist President Mohamed Mursi that was prompted by mass protests against his rule. At least 1500 people were killed.

Militant attacks against the police and army have risen sharply across the country and most significantly in Sinai.
