CAIRO, Oct 23 (Aswat Masriya) - The Cairo Court of Appeals suspended Thursday Judge Hassan Yassin, head of the technical office and former assistant of the general prosecutor, accused of signing the "Rabaa statement" supporting Former President Mohamed Mursi.

Fifty-nine more judges are facing charges for signing the same statement.

Appointed judge Mohamed Shereen Fahmy referred Monday 60 judges and chancellors, including Yassin, to the disciplinary council to investigate judges accused of signing a document of support for the former president, broadcasted from media center at the Rabaa sit-in in July, 2013.

Shereen demanded the judges' suspension from the judiciary. He also accused the judge who read out the statement, Mahmoud Mohi al-Deen, of fraud. Shereen said some of the judges whose names were on the statement denied signing it and were therefore excluded from the list of defendants in the case.

Supreme Election Committee Head Nabil Salib mandated Shereen in July 2013 to investigate 75 judges who signed a statement entitled "the independence current". The judges were accused of interfering in politics and violating the judicial authority law.
