CAIRO, July 6 (Aswat Masriya) Cairo Governor Mostafa Saeed said on Sunday that the fares of public buses will not increase due to the fuel subsidy cuts that went into effect midnight of Friday.

The Egyptian government increased fuel prices on Saturday by up to 75 percent in an effort to decrease the budget deficit and reduce an economic burden that has increased in the past three years due to political turmoil.

Saeed announced earlier on Sunday that taxi fares will increase to meet the increase in fuel prices, Egypt's state news agency said.

Some Egyptians worry that the subsidy cuts will lead to an increase in the prices of other goods and services.
