CAIRO, Aug 26 (Aswat Masriya) - Egypt's Foreign Ministry asked citizens returning from conflict-torn Libya to avoid crossing through the Ras Jedir checkpoint on the Libyan-Tunisian borders as it could endanger their lives, said a statement issued on Tuesday. 

The ministry renewed its warning against traveling to Libya and asked Egyptians to steer clear of conflict areas and to use the Salloum border crossing between Egypt and Libya to return home.

"Two evacuation flights will be available, considering the current situation."

Flights to and from Tripoli stopped on July 13, following the worst wave of violence in Libya since the overthrow of Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi in 2011.

Cairo hosted the Fourth Ministerial Meeting for the Neighbouring Countries of Libya, where the foreign ministers of Egypt, Libya, Tunisa, Algeria and Sudan discussed the latest wave of unrest in the country.

Libya's neighbours called for the "gradual" disarmament of warring militants in the North African country, with regional sponsorship and international support.

Militant fighting in Libya has recently intensified in measures unprecedented since the overthrow of late Libyan President Muammar Gaddafi in 2011.

Army general Khalifa Haftar declared war on Islamist forces within Libya since May. 

Forces in the Libyan City of Misrata blamed Egypt and the United Arab Emirates for airstrikes which targeted the Libyan capital on Saturday.

The International Organisation for Migration estimates that between 330,000 to 1.5 million Egyptians worked in Libya until Muammar Gaddafi was toppled in 2011.

The number of Egyptian expats has declined since, although it is not clear how many Egyptians remain in the country.
