CAIRO, Jun 9 (Aswat Masriya) - A child was killed when a rocket hit a house in North Sinai on Tuesday, medical sources and eyewitnesses said.

The deceased child was brought to hospital, as well as three people who were injured in the shelling with shrapnel wounds scattered across their bodies, medical sources said.

Eyewitnesses said the rocket hit a house in a village near North Sinai's Sheikh Zuweid city after clashes between security forces and militants.

Militancy inside Egypt has seen a significant rise since the July 2013.

Most attacks occur in North Sinai, targeting security forces.

The armed forces has launched an intensified crackdown in the Sinai Peninsula in response to the militancy.

Early this morning, security forces targeted a group of "highly dangerous extremists" in North Sinai, killing five of them, a military source said.

Armed forces spokesman Mohamed Samir said last week that a total of 141 suspected militants have been killed in North Sinai in the month of May.
