Army Colonel Nabil Abdel Hamid said he took over Fayoum governorate's headquarters and dismissed the city's governor Gaber Abdel Salam on Monday.

Hundreds of residents gathered in front of the governorate’s headquarters to celebrate this step and express their support for the army taking over.

Egypt's Armed Forced issued earlier on Monday a statement calling on all powers to reach a consensus within 48 hours or the Armed Forces will then announce a roadmap for the future.

Clashes that broke out in Fayoum on Sunday left two dead and dozens injured.
