CAIRO, Feb 7 (Aswat Masriya) – Four alleged militants were killed on Sunday during an exchange of fire with Egyptian police in a hideout in Giza, the interior ministry said.

In a statement published on Facebook, the interior ministry said the alleged militants were affiliated with militant group Ajnad Misr, Arabic for "Soldiers of Egypt".

The ministry's statement listed down the four alleged militants' involvement in a string of attacks targeting security personnel and police stations, mainly in Greater Cairo's Helwan city.

Ajnad Misr emerged in the months following the ouster of former president Mohamed Mursi in July 2013. The group mainly operates in Greater Cairo.

Egypt has faced a rise in militancy since Mursi's ouster, especially in the Sinai peninsula.

In response, security forces have waged campaigns in North Sinai in reaction to recurring militant attacks that target army and police officials.
