The Supreme Guide of the Muslim Brotherhood, Mohamed Badei, said on Sunday that his group prioritizes the public interest, stressing that the Brotherhood renounces violence.

"We respond to crime through law enforcement, we will not respond with violence to violence," Badie said during a meeting with Egypt's British ambassador, James Watt.

The chief leader of the Islamist group said that he has confidence in the people and their ability to distinguish between "those who work for public interest and those who work against it. Those who condemn violence and those who use it, giving it a political cover."

In a statement issued by the Brotherhood, Badie condemned the clashes that took place on Friday near the group's headquarters in what the activists had dubbed as the "Friday of Dignity".

Meanwhile, the British ambassador condemned the recent clashes and the "targeting of headquarters of political parties and various bodies."

Watt explained that his meeting with the Brotherhood's supreme guide comes within a series of meetings with different political forces and parties to have a better understanding of the current situation.

"It is necessary to adopt dialogue as a means of communication apart from violence," the British ambassador said.
