CAIRO, Nov 20 (Aswat Masriya) - The German government has allotted 12 million euros to support democratic transformation in Egypt, German Ambassador to Cairo Hansjörg Habar said Thursday.

Habar emphasised the importance of opening up the public sphere for civil society organisations, particulalry in communities that have witnessed lawlessness, state-run MENA reported.

The German government's funding decision comes in light of what it has achieved in Egypt, including the execution of more than 200 projects, through civil society groups, worth around 50 million euros in the years of 2012-2013.

Germany's civil society partners in Egypt operate in a democratic way within Egypt's constitutional framework, Habar added.

The projects funded by Germany in Egypt cover the fields of economics, science, politics, culture, the media, and youth, according to report released by the German Embassy in Cairo on Thursday. The largest project to be financed this year is vocational training in construction, tourism, handicrafts and auto-mechanics.

The scientific projects funded by Germany target collaboration between universities, the provision of grants, establishment of summer schools, and seminars, the statement added. Training opportunities were also provided for the staff of the Egyptian Parliament during the years of 2012, 2013 and 2014.
