Grief overcame figures of the former regime imprisoned in Tora, Liman Tora and Scorpion prisons after the announcement of Mohamed Mursi’s victory in Egypt's presidential runoff, the Middle East News Agency (MENA) reported security sources as saying.

The prisoners who were most affected by the news were former president’s Mubarak’s sons, Gamal and Alaa, in addition to Safwat al-Sherif, former Speaker of parliament, Zakariya Azmi, former Chief of Presidential Staff and several others charged with killing protesters in the infamous “Battle of Camel”.

Judge Farouk Sultan, head of the presidential election commission, declared Mursi Egypt’s first elected president after winning 51.7 percent of votes.
