Security forces blocked the Nile Corniche Road to supporters of deposed President Mohamed Mursi on Wednesday who announced earlier that they would march to the cabinet’s headquarters towards Qasr al-Nile Bridge through Tahrir Square.
The state news agency reported that police forces closed the entries leading into the cabinet’s headquarters amid a cautious atmosphere.
An eyewitness said that protesters are marching from different locations, chanting slogans, such as “Mursi is my president" and others against Abdel Fattah al-Sisi who heads Egypt's army.
The Islamist president was ousted by the army two weeks ago following mass demonstrations that swept the country.
A senior leader in Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood called for demonstrations in front of the cabinet's headquarters to protest the new interim government that was sworn in Tuesday.
The interim cabinet, appointed two weeks after the army deposed the Brotherhood's Mursi, was formed in response to the "road map" announced by the army.
Deputy head of the Brotherhood's Freedom and Justice Party Essam al-Erian has described the interim cabinet as illegitimate.
