CAIRO, Aug 9 (Aswat Masriya) - A blast in Egypt's North Sinai left two security personnel dead and three injured on Sunday, the Interior Ministry said.

An explosive device detonated while an armoured vehicle passed by, the ministry said in a statement.

The deceased are a police officer, who served as the assistant of investigations in a police station in North Sinai and a conscript.

The three injured, all conscripts, have been hospitalised, the ministry said.

This comes one day after an attack on a police transport vehicle left one policeman dead and three injured. The attack took place on the Cairo-Fayoum road, which connects the capital to Fayoum, about 85 kilometres south of Cairo.

Bombings and shootings targeting security forces have surged inside Egypt since the military ouster of Islamist president Mohamed Mursi in July 2013, following mass protests against his rule.

The vast majority of attacks have taken place in North Sinai, although other parts of the country have been hit.
