CAIRO, March 9 (Aswat Masriya) Egypt's Cassation Court struck down on Sunday a State Security officer's plea to suspend his sentence to 15 years in prison for killing Sayed Bilal until the court rules in his appeal.
Osama al-Keneesy had appealed his sentence and asked that it be suspended until the verdict in his appeal is announced.
He was sentenced in absentia on June 21 for complicity in the killing of Bilal who was arrested over a church bombing and tortured to death during his interrogation in January 2011 before the uprising that toppled Hosni Mubarak.
Alexandria's criminal court had sentenced four State Security officers in absentia to life and one other to 15 years in prison over the case.
Keneesy is the second of the defendants to hand himself in and plead for a retrial while the first was acquitted in December.
Police brutality was one of the main factors that sparked the 2011 uprising against the Mubarak regime.
