Egyptian police officer killed in armed attack on church

CAIRO, Jan 28 (Aswat Masriya) An Egyptian police officer was killed in an armed attack on a church in October 6 City on Tuesday, state newspaper Al-Ahram said.

A security source told the state news agency that five gunmen fired shots on the Virgin Church earlier and that security forces arrested one of them and are chasing the rest.

Security forces have set up a few checkpoints in an effort to catch the perpetrators.

Tens of churches and property belonging to Coptic Christians have witnessed attacks since the ouster of Islamist President Mohamed Mursi in July and more than 250 army and police personnel have been killed.

Earlier on Tuesday, a high profile security general was killed by gunmen near his residence in Haram.
