CAIRO, Dec 18 (Aswat Masriya) The Muslim Brotherhood’s Freedom Justice Party has called on Egyptians to boycott a constitutional referendum set for mid-January of next year.

In a statement on Wednesday, the FJP described the draft constitution as void and accused the 50-member assembly that wrote it of being a minority that wants to protect killers after the “bloody military coup”.

The Brotherhood and its political arm and other Islamist parties, including the Salafi Nour Party, wrote a constitution at the end of 2012 that was widely disregarded by liberal and leftist forces as well as the Church.

The statement insisted that the 2012 constitution is still the only legitimate constitution.

Egypt’s army ousted President Mohamed Mursi, who hails from the Brotherhood, in July, in response to mass demonstrations across the country calling for his resignation.
