CAIRO, Aug 31 (Aswat Masriya) – Egypt's Foreign Minister Sameh Shokri began on Sunday a Europe tour, during which he is scheduled to visit France, Germany and Italy.

Shokri has planned meetings with top European politicians, diplomats and parliamentarians during this tour, said Foreign Ministry Spokesman Badr Abdelatty.

During the visit, the foreign minister will discuss ongoing cooperation between Egypt and the three European countries, as well economic, trade, investment and touristic cooperation.

Shokri will also address pressing regional and international issues such as the Libyan crisis, the latest developments in the Palestinian Territories, the situation in Syria and the Iraqi crisis. The issue of terrorism and how it threatens international peace and security is also on Shokri's agenda, according to a foreign ministry statement.

Cairo hosted on Monday the Fourth Ministerial Meeting for the Neighbouring Countries of Libya, where the foreign ministers of Egypt, Libya, Tunisa, Algeria and Sudan discussed the latest wave of unrest in the country.

Libya's neighbours called for the "gradual" disarmament of warring militants in the North African country, with regional sponsorship and international support.

On Tuesday, Egypt succeeded in brokering a ceasefire agreement which put an end to the 50-day war in Gaza. The war, which started on July 8 as Israel began its offensive on the Palestinian strip to halt rocket-fire from Gaza's ruling Hamas, left 2139 Palestinians killed and over 11,100 injured. On the Israeli side sixty-four soldiers and six civilians were killed.
