BEHEIRA, Oct 23 (Aswat Masriya) - Unknown assailants threw Molotov cocktail at two police cars early on Thursday in the Nile Delta city of Damanhur, northwest of Cairo, leaving three policemen injured, Mohamed Fathy, security director of Beheira, said.

The assailants threw the Molotov from a bridge, which torched the police cars, Fathy added. He said that the Damnhur police station notified him of the incident and civil defence forces moved to the scene promptly in order to control the fire.

The policemen suffered burns and were transferred to a nearby medical institute to receive treatment, according to the state-owned news agency MENA.

Militants have stepped up attacks targeting the army and police across Egypt, particularly in Sinai, since the military's ouster of Islamist President Mohamed Mursi in July 2013 following mass protests against his rule.
