Leading member of the National Salvation Front, Egypt's main opposition alliance, said on Thursday that he refuses to respond to claims that his meeting with Muslim Brotherhood leaders will split the opposition.

The former Arab League secretary general said that there are attempts to use his meeting with the Brotherhood leaders to split up the opposition alliance.

"For the sake of our unity, I will not respond to attempts to divide the opposition," Moussa said on his Twitter account, adding that he will only disclose the information discussed in the meeting to the Front.

According to Al-Ahram newspaper, Moussa said on Wednesday that his decision to meet with Brotherhood leaders was made due to the difficulty of meeting with the presidency.

He met with businessman Khairat al-Shater, the deputy head of the Muslim Brotherhood's guidance office, and Saad al-Katatni, who heads the Brotherhood's political party, at the residence of Ghad Party leader Ayman Nour.

Moussa explained that he informed the attendees of the anger in Egypt against the regime and pressed on early elections.
