Nine militias were killed and 10 were arrested in confrontations with security forces in North Sinai late on Monday, a security source told Aswat Masriya.

The security operation included al-Mahdeya area, Nagaa Shabana and Gooz Abu Raad.

The source added that 48 vehicles and one motorcycle that were being used by the jihadists to attack security checkpoints were destroyed in the operation. 

Eleven residences where jihadists used as hiding spots were also demolished in the attacks. 

The authorities also confiscated ingredients that were being used to create bombs, arms, uniforms similar to the ones worn by Hamas members as well as passports.
