Egypt’s train movement will be resumed on Saturday by the beginning of the new school year after being halted for a month, reported the state daily newspaper al-Akhbar on Wednesday.

The movement will be resumed under a tight security plan “to counter any riots that may occur in train stations,” the state-owned newspaper added.

Railway services were completely stopped across the country since the crackdown by Egyptian authorities on two Cairo protest camps that were set by Islamists in support of deposed President Mohamed Mursi in mid-august.

The decision to halt train movement came in collaboration between the Egyptian Railways Authority and the Interior Ministry, which stated that the decision came to avoid disruptions in railway lines.

The train halt has cost the Railway Authority a loss of around 120 million Egyptian pounds, according to the Transportation Minister.
