CAIRO, May 2 (Aswat Masriya) - The campaigns of presidential contenders Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and Hamdeen Sabahi issued two statements to mourn a policeman and a conscript who were killed in two separate blasts on Friday.

Police corporal Abdallah Mohamed was killed when a homemade bomb planted at a police traffic checkpoint in Cairo's Masr al-Gedida district exploded earlier today.

In South Sinai, conscript Ahmed Ali Omar was killed when a suicide bomber blew himself up at a security checkpoint in al-Tor area.

"Coward terrorist acts will make only make Egyptians more insistent on purging the country from obscurant extremist groups and armed elements that seek to tamper with Egypt's security and stabilty," a statement for Sisi's campaign said.

Sisi urged Egyptians to stand united to combat terrorism.

On the other hand, Sabahi's campaign said that Egyptians "will never bow to extremist forces that want us to move backwards".

The campaign emphasised the need to fight terrorism, not only through security forces but by eradicating poverty and economic deterioration as well.
