CAIRO, Sept 19 (Aswat Masriya) – Egypt’s new prosecutor general Nabil Sadiq was sworn in Saturday, more than 80 days since the assassination of predecessor Hisham Barakat.

A statement by the presidency added that Sadiq, who was nominated by the Supreme Judicial Council, will hold this position for a four-year term.

Sadiq graduated from the Police Academy in 1976 and holds a bachelor’s degree in law. He ended his service as a police officer a few years later when he joined the public prosecutor’s office to pursue a career in the judiciary.

Sadiq was seconded to work in Qatar for six years as a judge in a Qatari appeals court.

Working his way up the judicial ladder, he was an adviser at the Cairo Appeals Court before being promoted in July 2015 to the position of deputy head of the Cairo Cassation Court, in charge of its technical office.
