Seven people were injured in renewed violent confrontations that took place late on Saturday by a Mahala police station in Gharbiya.

Trying to raid the station, protesters hurled stones and Molotov cocktails at security forces who responded with teargas to disperse them.

The injured men included two police officers and five civilians, a source from the
General Mahala Hospital has said.

The interior ministry said on Sunday that police forces successfully thwarted an attempt to raid the station on Saturday night, leading however to the injury of four of its men.

It added in a statement on its official Facebook page that it was able to arrest 300 “rioters” who had assembled in al-Shoom Square by the police station.
