Egypt's presidency on Thursday welcomed the articles of al-Azhar document to put an end to violence, describing it as a "big step on the path to achieve stability in Egypt".

In a statement published earlier today on the presidency's spokesman Facebook page, the presidency said it welcomes the principles endorsed in the document.

These principles include "the necessity of renouncing all forms of violence as well as firmly and directly condemning it ... and affirming the state's responsibility in safeguarding the security of the citizens and protecting public and private properties".

The presidency praised the document's call for making the national dialogue effective and forming a committee to agree on the goals of this dialogue and its agenda.

The presidency also considered that today's meeting "marks providing a real opportunity for development efforts and highlights the role of youths and their responsibilities in order to achieve the goals of our glorious revolution".

Representatives of parties and political powers signed the document to condemn the violence that flared up in the country on the anniversary of the January uprising last Friday.

Violent clashes in several cities left more than 50 people dead and hundreds injured over the past few days.
