CAIRO, May 3 (Aswat Masriya) - An army conscript who was injured in a North Sinai blast early Sunday succumbed to wounds sustained by the explosion, medical sources at Arish Public Hospital said.

The 21-year-old conscript was injured when an improvised explosive device went off in an army armoured vehicle in North Sinai's al-Arish city. He died of shrapnel wounds, the sources added.

An army officer and two other conscripts were also injured in the blast.

Militancy inside Egypt has seen a significant rise since July 2013, with the military ouster of Islamist President Mohamed Mursi, following mass protests against his rule. Most attacks target security forces in North Sinai.

At least 115 suspected militants were eliminated by the armed forces in North Sinai last month alone, according to statements by Samir.
