CAIRO, Jun 6 (Aswat Masriya) - A policeman was killed in a blast inside a warehouse used to manufacture explosive devices north of Cairo on Saturday, the state news agency MENA reported.

Security forces were able to locate a "factory" which manufactures explosive devices in a farm in Gharbiya, reported MENA. The farm is reportedly owned by a member of the banned Muslim Brotherhood.

Explosives experts moved to the scene of the explosion right away and cordoned off the farm, MENA reported. The policeman belonged to the ministry of interior's civil protection department.

Bombings and shootings targeting security forces have surged since the military ouster of Islamist president Mohamed Mursi in July 2013, following mass protests against his rule.

Egypt listed the Brotherhood as a terrorist organisation in December 2013 and insists it is behind the stringent wave of militancy which has targeted security personnel. The Brotherhood continuously denies this.
