A group of Egyptian activists has called for putting aside trousers and jeans and replacing them with dresses as a symbolic show of freedom and defiance in the face of the rising cases of sexual harassment.  

The activists have launched a campaign under the slogan “We will Wear Dresses” and created pages to promote it on Facebook and Twitter to confront sexual harassment in the streets and public transportation.

The group insisted that the fight starts with women regaining the will to free themselves and not give up on their rights. 

Some people have criticized the event, describing it as ineffective and irrelevant. 

According to Egypt’s National Council for Women, 70 percent of women in Egypt have been subjected to harassment in public areas. 

A taxi driver in Tanta was recently released after running over an 18-year-old girl who stood up against his harassment.
