CAIRO, Jan 6 (Aswat Masriya) The report published on the Kuwaiti newspaper regarding the decision of Defence Minister Abdel Fattah al-Sisi to run for presidential elections was only a “journalistic effort”, Egypt’s army spokesman said on Thursday.

He added that there were no direct statements from Sisi and that his words were interpreted inaccurately.

“Sisi’s decision to run for presidency is a personal decision that he will announce before the Egyptian people only through clear and direct words,” the army spokesman said in a Facebook statement.

Kuwaiti news paper Al-Seyassah reported on Thursday that Sisi said he had no alternative but to meet the demands of the Egyptian people for him to run for elections.

Egypt’s presidential elections are due within six months.

Sisi announced the ouster of Islamist President Mohamed Mursi on July 3 following mass protests against his rule.
