Update: Eyewitnesses report dozens of injuries in Shubra clashes

Clashes in Mohamed Mahmoud Street on November 21, 2012 - Ahmed Hamed/Asway Masriya

Supporters of former president Mohamed Mursi rallying at Khazendar Mosque in Shubra assaulted pro-army demonstrators near the Dawaran Shubra area, injuring dozens, eyewitnesses told Aswat Masriya.

Several pro-army demonstrators suffered wounds from shotgun pellets and were taken to al-Sahel Hospital, the eyewitnesses added.

Pro-Mursi demonstrators fired shots in the air, causing a state of chaos in the area and bringing traffic to a halt.

The area's residents formed vigilante groups to prevent Mursi's supporters from returning and rallying again at the mosque.
