The Muslim Brotherhood’s spiritual leader, Mohamed Badie, has accused political factions of allowing their hatred for Islamists to distract them from the national interest and the "goals of the revolution".

Badie also accused Egypt’s top army commander, Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, of "committing massacres only seen at the hands of Zionists and their agents."

He described the crisis as a battle between "right and wrong" which turned the tables, making it a crime to have contacts with Gaza and Syria and an honor to have contacts with Israel.

Badie asked pro-democracy and pro-freedom communities to take a stance against the recent violent events.

An official said on Sunday that the death toll of the violent confrontations which erupted during the early hours of Saturday by the Rabaa al-Adaweya Mosque has increased to 72 people, reported the state news agency.

Supporters of ousted President Mohamed Mursi have rallied in the Nasr City square for about a month to demand that their democratically elected president be reinstated.

After Egypt's army ousted the Islamist president on July 3 following massive demonstrations across the country, violent confrontations erupted between his supporters and opponents or security forces.
