CAIRO, Sept 5 (Aswat Masriya) - Police forces dispersed pro-Muslim Brotherhood rallies in Alexandria and arrested 16 protesters after Friday prayers.

Tens of Brotherhood supporters have organised six rallies east and west of Alexandria under the banner of "Revolution of the Poor", originally scheduled for September 9, Aswat Masriya's eyewitness said.

The police arrested 16 protesters in possession of inciting publications and fireworks, state-run MENA agency reported.

The National Coalition for Supporting Legitimacy (NCSL) has called on its supporters to rally earlier on Friday under the banner of "Revolution until Victory" to demand retribution.

Marches kicked off from Borg al-Arab city, followed by three others in Raml and Hadra of east Alexandria, Wardian and Minya al-Basal in the western region. The protesters chanted against the deteriorating economic situation and frequent power outages.

Security forces secured vital institutions in Alexandria, and increased patrols in the streets to prevent the return of demonstrations.
